Aaron and I were fortunate to come
across a slice of heaven in Alaska. We jumped head first
into building a log cabin with literally no experience.
We've documented most of the building process with pictures and
some stories and descriptions. Building a log cabin is no
easy task, but it certainly is rewarding and enjoyable! |
We built a timber frame home starting
in August of 2009 and completed it the fall of 2010...We passed our home
on to some friends in Bear Valley who will appreciate it just as
much as we did! Hard to say goodbye to something we put so much
effort and heart into....but until the next project. |

Hunting in Alaska has been quite an adventure for us! I
wasn't a hunter prior to moving to Alaska, but have found that I
am quite passionate about it now! We've documented many of
our hunts, both successful and unsuccessful, with pictures and
stories on the following pages. Come along for some Alaska
Yukon moose hunting, black bear hunting, and caribou hunting.
We haven't hunted in a few years because of the house projects
and babies...but we finally did a little in again in 2012 |

2015 Montana Living and
Outdoor Adventures And then there were 3........Coming
soon |

2014 Montana
Living and Outdoor Adventures Settling in to
Montana living with two littles. We've spent lots of time
exploring the woods around the Flathead Valley and of course
lots of time is spent with our family. Life is slower but oh so
sweet! |
We welcomed a sweet little girl into our family June 17,
2013...Hannah Claire Bork, and one month later we moved back
home to Montana. I hate to even confess the move, as my heart is
in Alaska, but it's where God has us for now and I find comfort
in that. It's a blessing to see Luke falling in Love with
all his family. |
Now that we have figured out this outdoor thing with one
child, we are adding number two to our family. We are expecting
a little girl in June 2013. The logistics of our
adventures are constantly changing!

A year of learning how to maintain our outdoor lifestyle and
still have a happy baby. We did a lot this year including
winter hiking, spring hiking, fishing in the summer, cabin
trips, and now fall hiking with a one year old. Life has
definitely changed for the Borks...but that doesn't mean its any
less of an adventure!
Hiking is one thing with a baby, but backcountry camping is
another adventure entirely. Our ultralight days of backpacking
are over indeed, and only going to get heavier I'm afraid.
However, camping with a baby is a joy. Luke was 10 months on his
first backcountry trip. |
The adventures and trials of hiking in the winter in Alaska
with a baby. We've learned a lot, and continue to learn
about this outdoor parenting we are trying to do. Through
trial and error we've found what has worked for our little guy!
Hiking with an infant less than a year of age is an
adventure in itself! |
2011 proved to be the biggest year of change for Aaron and I.
We welcomed a healthy baby boy, Luke, in August. We
are committed to keeping with our outdoor lifestyle...we just
have to learn how Luke fits into our new adventures! |
We finally finished the Timber Frame in 2010. We
love it, but what a relief to be on to doing what we love to
do...hiking and exploring Alaska. It is nice to finally
enjoy our home! Here are a few memories from 2010. |
We welcomed Jarvis to the family this spring. We took him home when
he was just 8 weeks old. A yellow lab to show the malamutes how dogs are
supposed to listen...(it hasn't really worked though). |
Time in the hills is always exciting! So many opportunities
to see unusual things and find treasures. We spent most of 2009
building the Timber Frame, but managed to do some spring hiking
before the project began and did take a few breaks during the
build for some sanity.

A few pictures from the road trip back to Alaska. A lot
of pictures of hiking in Alaska, a trip to Homer, moose photos,
and the fall colors in Alaska. It's GREAT to be back.

After purchasing a hundred year old house in Somers, MT we
went to work remodeling from top to bottom. It was a bit
time consuming but a great learning experience.
Trip up the Dalton Highway with my folks in 2006. We saw a lot of
wildlife including musk oxen, dall sheep, caribou, and moose. The
scenery was incredible.
We've come along way in our sense of adventure. This
was just the beginning of learning all about Alaska! |
We LOVE our Alaska Malamutes. We've been the proud parents of
two malamutes. They aren't the easiest pets, but we love
them none the less! |
A few pictures and stories of successful fishing trips in
Alaska. Most of our trips were for salmon, both silvers
and red. Summer fishing trips with family are a normal in
Alaska. |

Montana Pictures
(a
few classics from back in the day)
Aaron and I are both from the Flathead Valley. I grew
up in Lakeside, MT and he grew up in Bigfork, MT. It isn't
a bad place at all to be from. Most of our family still
lives there! It's a beautiful place. |
